To display a pupil attainment over time graph, you will need to have pupil and graph selected in the toggles on the left hand side of the screen. Then you should choose the data that you want to display using the Choose Pupils/Subjects/Timeframe button and pressing 'Generate Graph'. The Attainment over time graphs described on this page use more than one date. If you only want to look at one date you should generate an Attainment graph.
The Attainment graph will be selected by default in the green control bar as you can see in the image below.

This graph is useful to see individual differences in rate of progress over time. Each pupil has a different coloured line which joins the points that show their attainment in the subject on each of the selected dates.
This can be useful as it allows you to quickly see any significant trends in attainment, and directly compare the attainment of your chosen pupils.
In the legend, you are given the colour line which corresponds to each pupil. Clicking on a pupil's name in the legend allows you to toggle their line on and off. If you have a lot of pupils on the graph, switching an individual pupil's line on and off can help you identify it.

This can also be useful to visualise an individual's progress in different subjects over the same timeframe. Each subject is shown as a different coloured line.
This can be useful to share with the pupil themself or their parents in order to review how attainment is developing in different subjects.
We can see here that the pupil is generally moving in the right direction although attainment in writing is below reading and maths. We can also see that progress in reading is slower than the other subjects so far this year.
