The new markbook will be available to all customers at the end of February. On this page, you will find the answers to some of the questions we have had about moving to the new markbook.

How Do I Access The New Markbook?

Click the link to access Classroom Monitor 2018. This takes you straight into the markbook selection menu.

Will assessments Transfer From The Previous Markbook?

Yes. Any assessment that has been saved in the Class or Pupil Markbook will be visible in the new markbook.

Will I Still Be Able To Use The Old Markbook?

Yes. Until the new markbook is fully embedded with customers, we won't be switching the old markbook off. Any assessments made in the new markbook will transfer to the old markbook and vice versa. However, we would recommend moving to the new markbook as soon as you can as you will find it quicker and easier to use with some new functionality.

Where's The Save Button?

If you are connected to the internet, assessments will be saved automatically so there is no need for a save button. You will see 'save successful' flash up in the top right hand corner whenever you change the colour of a tile. Then, in the background every 5 minutes, assessments in the markbook are used to calculate an attainment score. You don't have to be logged in for the score to calculate, this will happen in the database.

Will Our Customised Curriculum Work In The New Markbook?

Yes. Any subjects that you've added or edited or any changes to terminology and setup will continue to work in the same way.

Where Can I See Pupils' Attainment Scores?

These are not shown in the new markbook, all scoring is viewed via pupil tracking. You can still order the pupils by attainment however, and it will use the assessments recorded for the displayed objectives which makes this function even more useful for planning.

Can I Still Copy The Objective And Guidance To Add To Planning? Where Are The Stars So I Can Access Resources?

This hasn't been built into the new markbook yet. However, we will be introducing a 'Planning' mode very soon which will provide this functionality along with some new features to support your planning. In the meantime, you can still copy objectives and/or guidance and access resources via the Class Markbook as you have done previously.

Can I Still Add Evidence To An Objective Or Add A Comment To A Report?

We have introduced modes into the markbook. When you first load a markbook, you will be in 'Assessment' mode where you can record and view assessment. However, if you look at the markbook control bar at the top of the screen, you will see that there is an 'Evidence' mode and a 'Reporting' mode. We wanted to bring this functionality to the fore rather than having it buried away under a right click menu.

Can I Still Record Assessment For More Than One Pupil / Objective At Once?

You can record assessment in more than one tile at the same time in a number of ways. Clicking on individual tiles selects them and you can select as many as you need to before changing the colour of them all at once. Clicking on an objective selects every pupil's tile for that objective so these can all be changed at once and clicking on a pupil's name selects their tiles for all of the objectives.

Can I Use The New Markbook On A Tablet / iPad?

If you are recording assessment and/or evidence using a tablet, we would recommend that you use the Classroom Monitor app. The Attainment and Progress and Reporting modules are not currently included in the app and should continue to be accessed via a browser.

Can I Still Tell Which Teacher Made An Assessment? Can I Tell When It Was Last Updated?

Hovering your cursor over any coloured tile in a markbook will tell you the user that last updated that tile and the date on which it was saved. In addition to this, hovering over a pupil's name will tell you when the last assessment was saved for the displayed objectives.

I Have Added New Assessments For A Pupil But Their Score Is Not Changing / There Are Two Pupils With The Same Markbook Assessments Recorded But Different Scores. Why?

The most likely explanation for this is that markbook assessments are only used to calculate scores for pupils who are set to 'automatic scoring'. To switch pupils to automatic scoring, you will need to access the 'adjust scores' screen via the Class Markbook.

The Selection Menu Doesn't Seem To Have Changed Much. Is There Anything New Here?

While you have the same selectable options (Group, Curriculum, Subject, Ability, Strand and Ordering) there are some key differences.

  • You can now select more than one group at a time
  • You can now select more than one subject at a time (as long as they are from the same curriculum)
  • You can select an unlimited number of abilities and they no longer have to be next to one another as in the Class Markbook
  • You have some extra ordering options

We Have A Sync With 2BuildAProfile, Will This Still Work?

Yes, this will continue to work in the same way.

Our school is new to Classroom Monitor. Should we start using the old markbook or the new one?

We would recommend starting to use the new markbook straight away as it will be much easier and quicker for teachers.

My Question Isn't Listed Here. What Should I Do?

We are running a series of webinars where you can view the new markbook and ask questions, so please take a look at the Webinar schedule.
