Curriculum customisation is available to all schools on a subscription basis. To customise an existing framework you will need to be logged in as the school admin user.

Existing subjects should already have abilities assigned to them. You can view what these are by selecting a subject from the subject search page of the curriculum customisation tool and then pressing the 'Edit' button and choosing 'Abilities'.

Editing Existing Abilities

When you first reach the abilities screen, you will see a list of the abilities, if any, that are currently assigned to the subject. This is also shown if you select "None, just show me only those Abilities assigned to this subject" from the Scoring Method/Grouping menu. When this menu option is selected, as you can see in the screenshot below, each ability level of the subject has its own row and its own 'Edit' and 'Remove' button.

Pressing the 'Edit' button will allow you to change the ability name, rename the sub-stages and change the associated points. Before editing any ability levels you should make sure that you understand how ability levels work in Classroom Monitor. You can find out more about this on the Adding Abilities help page. NB Editing an ability level will edit it for all subjects that it is used in.

Removing Abilities

Pressing the 'Remove' button will remove that ability from this subject. If you press this button, you will be prompted to make decisions about whether you want it to be removed from the subject or from the curriculum. If you are removing any ability levels, please make sure that you have reassigned any objectives that are currently in this ability level that you would still like to use.

By default you will see the active ability levels on this screen. However, If you want to see abilities that have been removed you should change the "Subject Ability Status" to Inactive.

Adding Abilities From Other Subjects

It is possible to view abilities from a different subject or curriculum by using the Scoring Method/Grouping dropdown:

  • None, just show me all abilities in this curriculum: Will show abilities assigned to the all subjects in the same curriculum.
  • None, just show me all abilities for this school: Will show all abilities in use in all of the curriculum(s) that are active in your school's account.
  • CM Levels: These are a selection of other pre-loaded abilities available in Classroom Monitor that you could choose to use.

You will see a screen similar to the image below. Abilities that are currently assigned to the subject will be highlighted in yellow and abilities that can be added will not be highlighted. To assign one or more of these ability levels to this subject, you need to tick the relevant check boxes and then press the green 'Add Abilities' button at the bottom of the screen.

Creating New Abilities

Pressing the 'Create A New Ability' button will allow you to create your own abilities. You can find instructions for this on the Adding Abilities help page.

Changing Order Of Ability Levels

The order that abilities will appear in Attainment and Progress is governed by the points assigned to them, so if you want to change this you will need to change the points by editing each ability in turn. You can find out more about this on the Adding Abilities help page.

The order that abilities will appear in the Markbooks and in the customisation tool is governed by their 'sequence number'.
