Curriculum customisation is available to all schools on a subscription basis. To customise an existing framework you will need to be logged in as the school admin user.

Before creating a curriculum from scratch in Classroom Monitor, you may want to consider whether it would be better to adapt one of the existing frameworks. For example, the Rising Stars Progression Framework, which is available to all Classroom Monitor users, follows National Curriculum 2014 very closely so may provide a good basis to build your bespoke curriculum upon. You can edit
subjects and objectives of any of the existing frameworks in a large number of ways to build a framework that better suits your purposes.

On this page, you will find instructions for building a curriculum from scratch. Before embarking on entering your own curriculum into Classroom Monitor, we would strongly advise that you take our mini e-course
Curriculum Customisation Tool Ecourse.

To access the curriculum customisation tool, you should login as admin and then navigate to Customisation > Customise Classroom Monitor for your school > Customise School Curriculum.

Step 0: Make Sure That Your Curriculum is Classroom Monitor Ready

Before you start entering your curriculum into Classroom Monitor, you will need to think about the format and understand some key terminology.

Step 1: Create The Curriculum in Classroom Monitor

To start creating a new curriculum, you should press the green 'Create a New' button in bottom right hand corner of the first screen that you see.

This will open a dialogue box which asks you if you want to create a new curriculum before creating a new subject; you should answer 'Yes'. This will take you to the screen shown below where you should enter a name for the curriculum and press the green 'Create Curriculum' button.

Step 2: Create Subject(s)

When you press 'Create Curriculum' you will be taken to a blank 'Subject Details' page where you can create your first subject. Find out more on the Creating New Subjects help page. You will be given the chance to create as many subjects as you require.

Step 3: Assign Levels

Once you have added all of the subjects that you require, you will see a blue 'Add Levels' button. To find out more information about adding levels you should visit the Adding Abilities help page. When you are creating levels, you will be given the option to add them to the current subject only or all subjects in the curriculum at once.

Step 4: Build Strands
(Optional)

Once you have assigned levels, you are given the option to build strands. Strands help when organising large curricula but you do not have to use them if you don't feel that you need to. If you would like to add strands, find out more on the Subject Strands help page.

Step 5: Add Objectives

The final step in creating your curriculum is to add objectives. To find out more about how to do this, you can visit the Manage Objectives help page. You will need to add objectives to all subjects that you want to use for assessment in the markbooks. If you only want to use a subject in the Attainment and Progress area then you do not need to add objectives.
