Curriculum tracking is available to all schools on a subscription basis. You must be logged in as a teacher/SLT member to access the Attainment and Progress areas in Classroom Monitor

Once the basics of curriculum tracking have been mastered, it can be used show progress at an objective level or to compare attainment between different groups of children.

Viewing Progress at an Objective Level

Curriculum tracking data can be loaded for two or more dates to show the effectiveness of teaching and any specific interventions on pupil’s attainment during that time period. To show progress, first select pupils, subject, objectives and one date. Then, the ‘create selection’ button (circled in the image below) should be pressed. A selection should then be made for the second date. Pupils, subjects and objectives will remain the same so don’t need to be selected again. In Select Timeframe, a second date should be selected before pressing the ‘create selection’ button again.

There will then be two boxes- Selection 1 and Selection 2- which will show the two dates. If necessary, typing in the boxes will change the name used for each selection.

Pressing generate table will show a curriculum tracking table with the objectives for the first date at the top and the same objectives for the second date at the bottom. The graph will also reflect this.

Progress can be shown by:

  • Comparing numbers/percentages of achieving each colour of assessment e.g. Only 9 pupils had met objective 4.1.a.1 in Dec 15 but 17 of them have met it now with 1 more being recorded as exceeding.
  • Comparing total scores- The higher difference in totals for a particular objective between the two dates are the more progress has been made e.g. we can see that the most progress has been made in 4.1.a.1 as it has moved from a total of 13.1 to a total of 18.3

Comparing Groups

Curriculum tracking data can be loaded for two or more groups of pupils in order to compare their performance at objective level. Examples of comparison might be:

  • Comparisons of attainment in different classes in the same year group
  • Comparing attainment of FSM pupils v non-FSM pupils in a group
  • Comparing attainment for in-class ability groups

To compare groups, select one group of pupils, subject, objectives and one date. Then, the ‘create selection’ button should be pressed. A selection should then be made for the second group. Subjects, objectives and timeframe will remain the same so don’t need to be selected again. In Select Pupils, the second group of pupils should be selected before pressing the ‘create selection’ button again.

There will be two boxes- Selection 1 and Selection 2- which will show the two different groups of pupils. If necessary, typing in the boxes will change the name used for each selection.

Pressing generate table will show a curriculum tracking table with the objectives for the first group at the top and the same objectives for the second group at the bottom.

Attainment should be compared by looking at the proportions achieving each colour of assessment. In the example above, 90.91% of girls have achieved objective 4.1.a.2 whereas only 69.23% of boys have done the same.

The ‘total’ should only be used for comparisons when there are known to be equal numbers of children in each group. In the example above for objective 4.1.a.3, the boys' total is 7.1 whilst the girls total is 8.8 however we do not know whether this is because there are more boys than girls or whether it is because of higher attainment in this objective.

The graph below is comparing children who have FSM with children who don't have FSM for the same three objectives.
